The South Australian election is your chance to be heard
The upcoming South Australian election is a powerful moment for people with disabilities to make our voices heard.
Elections are when candidates listen the most to their community. It’s the time when voters can demand action and make sure the issues that matter the most to us are taken seriously.
Right now, there is opportunity to send a clear message: whoever is elected to the next South Australian Parliament must listen to the voices of people with disabilities.
Our lives, experiences and expertise need be part of decisions about education, employment, accessibility, housing, transport and community.
No decision should be made about us – without us.
By speaking up now, we can remind candidates that:
- People with disability are experts in our own lives
- Disability inclusion must be a priority for government
- Policies work best when they are shaped by the people they affect
- Listening to disabled people leads to stronger communities for everyone
- Candidates need genuine pathways to be able to hear directly from the people they represent.
How to take action
There are simple ways you can help ensure candidates hear from people with disabilities.
- Email: When candidates hear directly from voters in their community, they pay attention. You can download the template email here to contact your local election candidates.
- Social media: Find your local candidates on social media and comment on their posts to ask them if they plan on listening to the voices of people with disabilities if elected. You can even download a social media graphic here to post on your own social media, sharing your voice and tag your candidates. Don’t forget to tag CPActive too!
